Brighstone Primary School “requires improvement”, according to Ofsted.

It was previously rated “good” at an inspection in 2012. When the school hosted its most recent visit in April, inspectors found poor progress in maths for some disadvantaged children and those with extra needs. Their report says teaching and learning in key stage 2 is not consistently good  and it says the school has had a problem with recruiting and retaining good teachers. However, there is praise for the interim headteacher and inspectors found teaching and learning in the early years, at key stage 1 and in Year 6 are a strength of the school.
