Talented young golfers are taking part in the Isle of Wight Junior Masters Golf Tournament today (Saturday).
The event is open to Island junior golfers aged between six and 18 years, and is being held at Westridge Golf Course, Ryde.
Organiser, Ron Joyce, said:
“Golf teaches the youngsters discipline, honesty ad how to obey the rules. It also gets them out of the house to have a good time.
“We have some very talented golfers and we are very much looking forward to the event.”
Two of the competitors are Mackenzie Lake, nine, and William Lake, ten.
“I’ve been playing golf for two years. We all want to win, but it depends how we play on the day.
“I’ve been practising on the holes I struggle with in preparation for the day. This is my third golf tournament.”
“I enjoy golf because it’s gets me away from my computer games. It also teaches patience and discipline.
“I’m really looking forward to it. Danny Willett is my favourite professional golfer.
“Golf is a really enjoyable and fun sport to play.”
The event is being sponsored by Esplanade, Newport. Sales Manager, Neil Doble said:
“We are very pleased to be sponsoring and supporting this new event for young Islanders.
“We are a long, established Island business, which likes to support young people in sport.
“The event will test the competitors who will play for almost £600 worth of prizes including gift vouchers, trophies and medals.
“We look forward to an exhilarating, enjoyable and challenging day of golf.”
