A man who changed his Facebook profile picture to Where’s Wally as he was being pursued by police has handed himself in, live on social media.
JJ McMenamin had taunted officers, who deployed a helicopter and sniffer dogs in their search for him over the weekend, by superimposing a picture of his head on to the elusive character’s body.
The 30-year-old posted the picture on his Facebook page with the caption: "Dude… I’m right here."
In another image, he described himself as a "hide and seek champion".
On Monday morning he filmed himself on Facebook Live, dressed in Wally’s famous red and white stripes, as he was driven to the police station by friends.
In the video he told his Facebook followers: "I’m right outside the cop shop now."
Another video showed him playing Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler, Lionel Richie’s Hello – laughing at the the line, "is it me you’re looking for?" – and the Spencer Davis Group’s Keep On Running.
McMenamin was wanted in connection with alleged driving offences.
A spokeswoman from North Yorkshire Police said: "A 30-year-old man from Middleham has been arrested after he handed himself in to officers at Harrogate Police Station.
"The arrest comes after extensive police searches for the man over the weekend, after he failed to turn up for a court hearing for driving offences."
