WATCH: A charity football match between Isle of Wight Police and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

The game was held at the home of Newport Football Club on Sunday (30 April) – St George’s Park.

The police took the lead with just six minutes on the clock and held the lead going into the break.

The NHS responded with an equaliser in the second half, before a dramatic 91st goal from Newport FC Chairman Stuart Ross clinched a victory for the police.

Samantha Sawyer, from the Joe Ellis Trust, said:

“It was a terrific game and you caould tell that both sides really wanted to win.

“From gate receipts alone, we have raised more than £1,000 – and that figure will rise.

“We must thank everyone who played – and everyone who turned up to show their support.

“Events like this are really important to the charity. Who knows, we could even make this an annual event.”
