Paul Pogba’s world record £89m football transfer to Manchester United is to be investigated, according to a FIFA source.

The Frenchman moved to Old Trafford from Italian side Juventus in August 2016.

A source at FIFA, the game’s world governing body, told the AFP news agency that the player’s move would now be looked into.

The reason for the investigation is not yet clear.

Pogba, 24, started his career with Manchester United before leaving for Italy, where he made his name by winning four league titles in Serie A.

His strong performances with France in the European Championships saw United manager Jose Mourinho target the player for a return to England.

The midfielder has made almost 50 appearances so far this season.
