A new committee boat for use by local sailing clubs launches this evening.

It’s owned by David Franks, who is the captain of the Etchells class sailing fleet, many of which were destroyed in a devastating fire last year. He’s made it available to the Cowes sailings clubs as a committee boat at cost only.

It will first see action as a committee boat in the Vice Admirals Cup, run by the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

The 11.5 metre catamaran is powered by twin outboard 75bhp and will manage 17 knots and cost £100 000. It has a modified roof observation platform and is fully adapted for use by people with disabilities.
It will be launched from Trinity Landing at Cowes Parade at 6pm.
