There is a major disruption to Red Funnel and Wightlink services today (Monday).
Red Funnel has been having to cancel sailings throughout today. The latest service affected is the 6:30 pm East Cowes to Southampton Vehicle Ferry which is delayed by four hours due to ‘a technical issue’.
One holiday maker, who was travelling with a four-year-old, was told his 4:30 pm sailing was now being rescheduled to 9 pm. As a result of the disruption, traffic chaos is being reported around the East Cowes terminal.
The 6 pm Southampton to East Cowes Vehicle Ferry was cancelled, also due to a technical issue.
Prior to that, the 5:30 pm East Cowes to Southampton Vehicle Ferry was delayed by five hours due to what’s also being described as a ‘technical issue’.
The service has tweeted that due to traffic congestion their Quay Connect bus service is running 10 minutes late.
The service tweeted in the morning to say there were delays on the 11 am sailing from Southampton to East Cowes by two hours and its East Cowes to Southampton sailing was delayed by an hour.
The company cancelled the Southampton to East Cowes ferry and the the 1.30pm East Cowes to Southampton. Its 2.30pm sailing from East Cowes was delayed by two hours and the 3 pm Southampton to East Cowes vehicle ferry was also cancelled. Red Funnel says the disruption was also due to technical issues.
The delays have been having a knock on effect to traffic in East Cowes, with long queues reported.
Meanwhile, Wightlink cancelled Fast Cat sailings this morning due to ‘mechanical issues’.
On the Wightlink website, a statement reads:
“We’re very sorry, because of a mechanical issue with one of our catamarans we’ve chartered a replacement vessel to operate some sailings on our Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head passenger catamaran service today (Monday, 17 July 2017).
“Regrettably we’ve had to cancel our 19:15 sailing from Ryde Pier Head this evening
“A charter vessel will operate the following sailings:
From Portsmouth Harbour: 16:40, 17:40 and 18:45
From Ryde Pier Head: 17:10 and 18:10
“Crossing times for sailings operated by the charter vessel will be up to 30 minutes.”
