It’s the first time the teams had met for ten years.
Around 2,000 people – including hundreds of Island based Portsmouth fans – packed into St George’s Park.
In the end the League One side’s class shone through as they ran out 8-0 winners against a spirited Island side.
Man of the match – Nicke Kabamba – bagged five goals, with Jamal Lowe (2) and Milan Lalkovic also netting for the visitors.

The game was refereed by Isle of Wight man and Football League official James Linington.
Despite the result, Newport Chairman – Stuart Ross – was thrilled with how the evening went:
“It’s been a wonderful experience for everyone involved with Newport Football Club.
“Pompey played magnificently. At times, our players were chasing the ball around, but it was a great experience for our players.
“It’s our last season at St George’s Park, as everyone knows, and welcoming Pompey is a fitting way for us to mark the occasion.
“We must thank everyone who showed up to show their support for both teams tonight. Our season starts on 5 August and we hope Islanders will turn out to support the club.”
