Meet Cable, the "grumpy, heavily armed" new villain of Deadpool 2, played by Josh Brolin.
The first look at the Marvel comic book character was released by Brolin and producer/actor Ryan Reynolds on Monday.
We all have that one, grumpy, heavily armed Uncle from the future, Reynolds wrote.
Deadpool 2: Your premium Cable provider.
Brolin re-posted the photo, getting in character and writing: Now offering 25 percent off your next autopsy. ☠️ #yourmine #deadpool.
Cable, like Deadpool, is a character originally from the X-Men Universe, which has made several appearances in other comics.
His real name is Nathan Summers, the son of X-Men member Scott Summers – AKA Cyclops – and Madelyne Pryor.
He first appeared as an infant in the 1986 Uncanny X-Men series and was later introduced as a time-travelling villain in The New Mutants.
When it was first announced the character would be introduced by Reynolds, actors Russell Crowe, David Harbour and Brad Pitt were tipped for the role.
Pitt went out of the race, with producers saying things didn’t work out schedule-wise, and Variety reported Michael Shannon was close to accepting the offer.
In April, Brolin was finally confirmed as the first Cable to hit the big screen, writing on Twitter: When you have a man-crush on Ryan Reynolds, what do you do? CRUSH IT!!!!!
Brolin, who is also playing Thanos in the upcoming Avengers film, was criticised for playing two Marvel villains at the same time.
But reactions on social media on Tuesday were overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising Brolin’s photos.
I’m so freaking hype right now, one user wrote.
No one on the planet has written Cable more than I have. This makes me happy for every single one of those words, said comic book writer Fabian Nicieza.
Brolin will join up with Atlanta star Zazie Beets as villain Domino, first introduced by Reynolds in July.
Deadpool 2 arrives in cinemas 1 June 2018.
