It’s after a fire on board a 40ft Sunseeker speedboat yesterday (Wednesday).
There were pollution fears after diesel started leaking into the harbour.
Harbour staff assisted by Cowes Harbour Commission, Ryde Inshore Rescue and fire crews were working to contain within the harbour a quantity of diesel from the vessel. Anti—pollution booms were used used.
The Isle of Wight Council says:
Council staff are on site to advise the public to keep away from the area of the harbour, both immediately onshore and offshore. Harbour users are also being notified.
A man and two children escaped the fire and no one was injured.
The council says it’s working with the owner of the speedboat to have it removed from the harbour area.
