A drifting dinghy and a motorboat with engine problems meant two call-outs for Cowes RNLI yesterday (Friday).
Launched just after 3pm, a small dinghy was found just east of Cowes with sails on board – but no sign of any occupant.
While coastguards contacted local sailing clubs, the lifeboat commenced a search pattern from the point at which the dinghy was first seen.
As first informant boat (Wet Wheels) took the dinghy to safety in Cowes, the Coastguard confirmed the dinghy had come from Fishbourne Creek and its crew were safely ashore.
The lifeboat crew brought it on board and motored gently towards Fishbourne to hand it over to its owners.
Shortly after, crews were called to a motorboat with engine failure in a similar area. They set up a tow and took the casualty up the River Medina to a safe berth at The Folly.
