Air Ambulance Called After Man Collapses On Sandown Beach

The air ambulance was forced to land on Sandown beach earlier after a man fell unwell.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) was alerted just before 5pm.

It's understood a man collapsed on the beach. Lifeguards were on scene, before emergency crews arrived.

The HM Coastguard helicopter, from Lee on Solent, which had been carrying out training in the area, diverted to the incident.

Coastguard rescue teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were also called.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:

"HM Coastguard has been responding to a request for help from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, with a medical incident at Sandown, Isle of Wight

"The Coastguard rescue helicopter from Lee on Solent had been out on a training exercise when it responded along with coastguard rescue teams from Bembridge and Ventnor."
