Coastguard teams and the ambulance service have been called to an emergency incident on Shanklin seafront this afternoon (Thursday).
It’s understood a man has suffered a medical episode and has been rescued from the sea.
Emergency teams are on scene near to the rowing club on the Esplanade.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is on its way to the incident, alongside the coastguard helicopter.
A HM Coastguard spokesperson said:
"At 3.39pm today, HM Coastguard received a report of a person in the water at Shanklin Esplanade, near Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club. The person required medical attention and we have been assisting the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
"We sent Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams - and also tasked the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent. A medical helicopter is also en-route to the scene."
Beach users are being cleared from the area as both helicopters prepare to land.
Bembridge Coastguard, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also in attendance.
