The family of a man involved in yesterday’s (Friday’s) serious crash in Wootton have paid tribute to emergency services.
A man experienced a “serious” medical episode at the wheel as he was travelling home from work.
A number of vehicles were involved in the resulting collision, including a bus and a van.
Two people sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, as Isle of Wight Radio first reported.
A statement from the family of the man involved reads:
“On behalf of our family, I would like to express our sincere thanks and utmost admiration for the incredible members of the emergency services who took care of our brother, after he experienced a serious medical emergency while driving home from work yesterday afternoon.
“We are so grateful that everyone involved came through it with only minor injuries and were able to go home to their loved ones.
“Our thoughts and best wishes go out to them, their families and to those who work tirelessly to keep our community safe and well.”
The crash prompted a large emergency service response.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were all called, alongside the air ambulance.
The main road through Wootton was closed for a number of hours while casualties and damaged vehicles were seen to.
It has since reopened.
