Bosses at Spar shops across the Isle of Wight are asking children this morning “how do you fancy a ride in a police car?”

They’ve come up with an innovative way of warning youngsters about the risks and dangers of shoplifting.

Posters are being displayed in shop windows offering thieves the chance to get themselves arrested and get their names in the press if they decide to steal from the shop.

The poster also says “Won’t mum be so proud that you have a criminal record.”

Spar’s Business and Development Manager Sam has told Isle of Wight Radio the poster is a “fun way of getting across a serious message.”

Thanks to Zoe Stroud who spotted the poster.
