An Isle of Wight choir that was set up to inspire a woman who’s battling cancer is to unveil a brand new CD today.

The Mum IOW singing group is based in East Cowes.

It was set up by Jo Everson when her friend Melanie Brooks was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Mel wanted a chance to sing, so Jo decided to take action.

She told Isle of Wight Radio:

When we first spoke about it Mel was in Southampton General and I said to her what’s going to keep you happy? She said Jo I love singing. She said do you remember when we used to do karaoke. Within a week I was in contact with a lot of people and now a year on we’ve got a CD. It’s brilliant.

She has been a little bit poorly this week, but she’s OK. She’s asked me to say can we say a massive thank you. Everybody’s just given 100% and she said she’s so proud of everybody.

The choir has gone from strength to strength, including holding a fundraiser in East Cowes in June.

Tonight they are holding a concert at the Riverside Centre, Newport featuring local bands The OHMZ, Downtown and Dirty Li’l Secret. The Pete Walkden Roadshow will be on hand.

The Mum IOW choir will also perform Mel’s Song which will go on sale in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

The event starts at 7pm.
