Royal Mail has announced it is to change the way it delivers mail in the Ventnor area, with new delivery routes affecting the time of day customers receive their post.

The changes affect the PO38 (sectors 1-3) postcode, where postmen and women will bring in route changes in phases over the next few weeks. Royal Mail said post would continue to be delivered in the morning and for a longer period during the day, and many customers will still get their mail by lunchtime. However, the time customers receive mail will depend on where they live and this could be later, or possibly earlier, than current delivery times. In a statement, Royal Mail said:

The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically. Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible. We also deliver more larger items and so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely. The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.
