Isle of Wight councillor Chris Whitehouse is stepping down from his role in the conservative party.

In a statement released this morning (Monday) Cllr Whitehouse has revealed he’s  resigning from all committees and panels, including his role as group secretary of the Conservative group on the Island. Cllr Whitehouse also said he will not seek re-election for his role as councillor of Newport West in May 2017. He’s described it as a ‘difficult, and painful decision’ brought about by personal health and family reasons. Cllr Whitehouse said:

“It is with profound regret that I need with immediate effect to tender my resignation as Group Secretary. I shall similarly be resigning from all committees and panels upon which I serve as one of  your representatives. “I should put on record, however, my own deep respect for the way the Group has functioned in the difficult situation of opposition and under the very professional and inclusive leadership Dave has offered. You can, and should be, proud of yourselves for your performance in adversity.”
