Investigations are underway after a man assaulted staff at the Co-Op store on Somerset Road in Ryde last night (Tuesday).

At about 10.10pm a man entered the shop and demanded money from the tills. He jumped over the counter and assaulted three members of staff, and he made off with £80 in cash. One of the staff members was treated at St Mary’s Hospital for a cut to one of his eyes. Police believe this may be linked to two similar robberies that took place on the island in February; one happened in Alldays, Sandown, on February 1 and the other took place at Southern Co-Operatives in Shanklin on February 17.
