The Isle of Wight Council is trying to establish the status of eco-vehicle firm “Hire a Twizy” after its website apparently stopped taking bookings.
The Isle of Wight Council secured £990,000 to support a range of sustainable transport interventions during 2015/16, from the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund. From that fund, “Hire a Twizy” received £36,000 in grant funding which was match-funded by the company. The firm was set up to provide electric vehicle hire and it launched with a high-profile roll out from a Red Funnel ferry (watch Isle of Wight Radio’s archive footage below) ahead of an official launch in March. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClUD7jCPFyE Councillor Shirley Smart, Isle of Wight Council’s executive member for Public Transport, Tourism, Recreation and Heritage, said:
“At this point we don’t know what the impact on the IOW operation will be, however, hope that the 15 publicly accessible electric vehicle charging points across the Island, made available through LSTF funding, will remain and continue to be available to the public.”
