The director of the Isle of Wight Day Parade this year is asking for people who want to be involved to get in touch.

This year the parade will be held in Ryde, following on from last year’s inaugural parade in Newport.

Parade director Paddy McHugh says this year, it will be something even more special:

“The High Sheriff would like it bigger and better than 2016. Plans are already underway and already, without giving too much away, quite a lot in this years’ parade. [I’m] really excited about about it and people pulling together already and wanting to be part of Isle of Wight Day 2017.”

Paddy says he wants as many different groups to be involved and to take pride in living on the Isle of Wight.

He’s been taken aback by the interest so far:

“I never ever realised how many different groups there are around the Island, so my idea initially was we’ll go into Ryde and lets pull in the all the Ryde groups first, all the organisations, the schools and theatre groups and just with that I was amazed at how many groups there are. But still I know, because people are already telling me, there’s more out there but I need to know who they are to get those groups involved.”
