Isle Of Wight School Merger Plans: Pupils Protest At Sandown Bay Academy

Pupils protested on the school field today.

Pupils at Sandown Bay Academy have been protesting today (Tuesday) over an announcement by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) that it wants to consult on a merger with Ryde Academy.

Hundreds gathered on the school field to chant “1234 – get AET out the door. 5678 – give it back to the State”, Isle of Wight Radio has been told.

Isle of Wight Radio has asked AET for a comment on today’s events.

Meanwhile, parents are expected to meet at the school shortly, as concern mounts over the school’s future. AET insists it is early days and that nothing has been decided.

Isle of Wight Radio also understands that an ambulance was called to Sandown Bay Academy earlier due to a collision on the football pitch during a match. We have been told the incident is unconnected to the pupils’ demonstration. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service will not confirm it was called and has refused to comment.
