An Isle of Wight healthcare service has been affected by the national cyber attack on the NHS today (Friday).

Medina Healthcare has surgeries at West Street in Newport and at Wootton Bridge.

They are currently unable to make bookings or access their computers and believe the situation could last in to the next week.

Medina Healthcare are warning patients of the two surgeries to only contact them in an absolute emergency, and instead called the NHS Helpline on 111.

16 NHS organisations in England are experiencing major IT problems because of a cyber attack.

Their systems have been infected by ransomware – which locks files until you pay money to the hackers.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust says it has not been affected.

*It’s reported that 74 countries have been affected by the cyber attack.
