The fight to save the Isle of Wight’s ice rink at Ryde continues.

The Ryde Arena Community Action Group (RACAG) are holding an open meeting at 7pm this evening (Thursday) at Ryde Castle, with an update on the situation.

Leaseholders AEW Europe, who closed the arena suddenly last year, have agreed to a building survey by a local island firm on behalf of the group.

RACAG have formed Wight Ice Leisure Ltd and are aiming to register it with a charitable status. They are hoping to raise funds for the group by holding events over the summer, and are set to benefit from the Ryde Slide on 16 July.

Robina Marshall is from RACAG:

“We’re going to tell people where we are with the building, where we are with the charity registration. We will probably brain storm some ideas for raising and let people know where the council stand.

“We’re also very interested in getting stories from anyone on the Island who has found the ice rink to be very important in their lives and their past.”
