The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been called to Sandown this afternoon (Tuesday) after concerns were raised about a fire in the town.
One appliance from Shanklin attended reports of burning in Grange Road at 3.36pm.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service told Isle of Wight Radio that items, including polythene, were being burned – sending plumes of thick black smoke into the sky – in a controlled environment, but without a licence.
The service said the Isle of Wight Council Environmental Officers have attended the scene and the fire is now out.
Meanwhile, one fire crew from Sandown has also extinguished a bin fire in the High Street near to Sandown Library.
