The Ryde Slide is over for another year – relive the moment with these photos.
The Ryde Slide returned yesterday (Sunday) for its third year. Hundreds of people descended down the 200m inflatable water slide, whilst raising money for local charities.
Cllr Wayne Whittle came up with the idea after seeing a similar event in Bath, on a street which looked almost identical to Union Street.
This year, the slide was moved to a steeper part of the street to make it faster. Many sailed down the slide in fancy dress. Even Batman and Robin were seen covered in foam. The firefighters were giving people a push at the top and squirting people with water all the way down, with the Ryde Inshore crew catching everyone at the bottom.
