Three people have escaped a dramatic fire on board a 38ft motor cruiser in Ryde Harbour.
People described a plume of black smoke rising above the town this lunchtime (Wednesday).

The fire is now mostly out, but Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service remains on scene damping down.
HM Coastguard (officers from Bembridge) and Ryde Inshore Rescue were also called to the area, to move nearby vessels. It was feared the fire could spread, or that adjacent vessels may be damaged after the motorboat’s mooring ropes were destroyed by flames, leaving it unsecured in the water.
There are now fears for the impact on Ryde Harbour. The boat, called poetic justice, has 300 litres of diesel on board and Isle of Wight Council officers were expected on scene with specialist equipment to prevent problems if it gets into the harbour.
