Two teenagers have been rescued by the crew of Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.

The alarm was raised at around 9pm last night (Monday).

The pair were cut off by the tide at Luccombe, near Shanklin after walking from Ventnor, and managed to call the Coastguard on 999 for help.

Lifeboat coxswain, Mark Birch, said the teenagers did the right thing by calling 999 – but has reiterated the warning about staying safe on the beach and being mindful of the tide:

“They were right to raise the alarm as soon as possible because this allowed us to get to them quickly before the situation escalated.

“We shone our blue flashing light and they turned thr torches on their phones on, which meant we could see exactly where they were and rescue you them, before taking them to Ventnor Haven.”
