Newport’s Fairlee Road has been closed this morning (Thursday), whilst repairs are carried out to a burst water main.

As reported by Isle of Wight Radio, more than a hundred people have been left without water due to the burst water main.

A Southern Water Spokesperson told Isle of Wight Radio:

“Our repair work is ongoing and we have now fully closed the road while we work to complete the repairs. Traffic management is still in place, including temporary traffic lights and a diversion is currently being finalised.

Once the burst is fixed the road will remain closed for a time while we carry out the repair and reinstatement.

We understand this can be frustrating for road users and would like to apologise for any delays, however we would like to assure people our crew is working hard to get this issue fixed and the road reopened as quickly and safely as possible.”
