An extraordinary meeting has been called to hear objections against retail plans for Newport’s St George’s Park.

South Coast Leisure (SCL) – which owns the land – wants to transform the current home of Newport Football Club to include two food retail units. These plans were backed by the Isle of Wight’s Cabinet Member for Resources earlier this month, but opposed by two Newport Councillors.

Concerns have been raised over having too many supermarkets in the area, and a ‘lack of consultation’ over the plans.

An extraordinary scrutiny meeting will be held 3 January at 5pm.
