Were you ever a member of 1st Newport Scout Group aka ‘The Old Guard’? It’s hosting a big reunion next month.

The Scout Group is holding a reunion to celebrate being one of the oldest surviving groups in the country, and possibly the world. It turns 110 years old next month (February).

More than 200 former members are expected to attend, according to Scout Leader Rod Warne.

Rod said:

“One of the things that we said we would do for our anniversary year – our 110th – is invite everybody back. We’re hoping to create a friends of the old guard network so that former members or people who just wish to support our group can help with fundraising and publicity, and everything else that we do.”

He added:

“This year in particular we have a whole host of event planned – starting with our reunion. It’ll be a night of reminiscing, sharing photographs and pictures, and we’ll have lots of DVDs and things playing.”

The reunion is taking place on 10 February, from 7.00pm until late at its headquarters – Wendes Hall, Woodbine Close, off St John’s Road (Newport).
