A well-known Red Funnel staff member has been shortlisted for a ‘Tourism Superstar’ award.

Scroll down to find out how to vote…

Customer Service Advisor, Jim O’Reilly, AKA ‘Dancing Jim’ from Cowes is one of ten finalists being celebrated for the Mirror Travel and VisitEngland competition.

He was nominated by the Island’s destination management organisation, Visit Isle of Wight.

The Tourism Superstar competition recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry. It is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond to help visitors have an unforgettable experience.

A familiar figure to many who use the Southampton-East Cowes Red Funnel route to the Isle of Wight, Jim has entertained countless thousands with his dance moves as he directs cars on and off the waiting ferry.

Jim says he hopes his dancing gives visitors a good start to their holiday:

“My approach is to give everyone a warm welcome when they arrive and then bid them a fond farewell. I like to help start and finish their holiday with a smile and hope they have a great time in between as well.

“Vote for me if you’ve had a good time, or if I helped start and end your visit to the Isle of Wight with a smile. I’m out there having fun, and if you are too that’s fantastic! Vote for me, by all means, as long as you’re enjoying it!!”

Here are just some of the reasons for why Jim has been nominated:

“Jim has taken what could be a forgettable moment in the customer’s travel experience and turned it into a memorable highlight.

“‘Jim the Dancing Man’ is well-known for deploying his signature dance moves while he directs traffic on and off the ferries. Jim makes an effort to ‘have a moment’ with each driver as they await instruction on when and where to proceed.

“Jim is genuine. And customers can see this too – that’s why he’s so loved.”
