A loss of water has been reported in several towns and villages on the Isle of Wight today (Thursday).
Isle of Wight Radio has been told residents in parts of Wootton, Ryde, Newport, Northwood and Sandown are affected.
A burst water main has been reported in Wootton.
On its website, Southern Water says:
“We are aware of a burst near PO33 4NE (Palmers Road) in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. Our team is on the way to investigate and make the necessary repairs.
“Sometimes repairs take longer than we’d like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience.”
*A Southern Water spokesperson told Isle of Wight Radio:
“We are aware of a water supply issue affecting parts of the Isle of Wight. Our team are currently investigating and will then start the necessary repairs.
Sometimes repairs take longer than we’d like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank our customers for their patience while we carry out this vital work.”
Wootton Primary School has been forced to close due to a loss of water.
*Southern Water says the cause is a burst water main in Medina Leisure Centre’s car park in Newport. Work to repair the 12 inch burst is due to begin shortly:
“At present we do not have an exact time frame for this repair but we’d like to assure our customers we are working as quickly as possible to fix this issue. We understand it can be difficult when there is a water outage and we’d like to thank people for their understanding while we carry out this vital repair.”

*Water should now be restored to all affected, according to Southern Water.
