A new generation of fire fighting vessels will be built here on the Isle of Wight.

Aluminium Marine Consultants is part of a tri-party partnership which has won the contract to design and build the Fixed Firefighting (Fi Fi) vessels.

The 14 metre multi-role ship will be built in Cowes, with a delivery date set for February 2019.

It will be able to carry out multi-roles to meet the risk and hazards of modern day marine firefighting, with have a max speed of 33 knots, have a capacity to supply up to 4,500 litres per minute of water.

AMC Commercial Director Rob Stewart said:

“By starting with a blank piece of paper we have been able to have a no compromise approach to design and build. The vessel will be built in Cowes and draws upon the tradition of skilled and innovative craftsmen that the Island is deservedly world famous for. We are mission ready.”

Angloco has been selected to supply the equipment, while Walker Marine Design is the naval architect for the project.

The tri-party partnership spokesperson said:

“The order was a vote of confidence for the UK marine industry, the UK economy and emerging export market for Fi Fi and multi-role vessel.”
