Teenage beach soccer stars from the Isle of Wight enjoyed a memorable international tournament competing for Great Britain.
Two all-Island teams – under-16s and under-18s – both reached the semi-finals in their respective competitions at the Madjer International Youth Beach Soccer Cup in Portugal last weekend.
The under-16s won three of their six matches, beating the Spanish and Portuguese national champions.
The under-18s also enjoyed victories over both nations before losing their semi-final, which was followed by an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat to the USA in the bronze medal match.
Luke Kerr, General Manager of the Isle of Wight Beach Soccer Association, said:
“The boys were superb and a great credit to the Island and Great Britain.
“They were all in the lower age brackets of their groups, meaning next year they can return in the same event but older and more experienced.
“I was really proud of them all and we’re already looking forward to next year’s competition.”
