More than £4 million pounds has been spent on upgrading and refurbishing six Island schools this summer, says the Isle of Wight Council.

The projects have included a new pre-school, modern classrooms, replacement roofing and windows, heating systems and electrical works.

Hunnyhill, Nine Acres and Nettlestone primary schools have all seen spends, alongside the Island Learning Centre.

At Shalfleet Primary School there has been a £1.4million refurbishment project.

Some of the cash has come from the government’s Capital School Improvement Programme.
