Cowes RNLI raced to the assistance of a yacht on fire in the Solent this afternoon (Sunday).

The lifeboat was called to the east of Cowes Harbour at around 1.10 pm.

The 37-foot Haven Star, which had two men and two women on board, caught alight after suffering engine trouble.

Crews managed to put the fire out with two powder extinguishers. However, the yacht’s loss of power meant it still needed assistance.

Cowes RNLI towed the yacht to its base in Gosport before returning to shore at 3.30 pm.
