Passengers were left stuck in the middle of the Solent for a short time today (Monday), after Wightlink’s new multi-million-pound vessel suffered an ‘electrical fault’.

The 3.30 pm sailing from Portsmouth to Fishbourne ‘slowed’ down for a ‘few minutes’ mid-Solent, according to a Wightlink spokesperson.

The cross-Solent operator said it was down to a ‘temporary electrical fault’ and the ship’s master informed customers on board.

The news comes after HRH The Countess of Wessex named the brand new £30 million hybrid energy car ferry last Thursday (20).

Victoria of Wight’s current journey has been delayed by 15 minutes.

Its 4.30 pm sailing from Fishbourne has been cancelled.
