Spitfires have taken to the skies over the Isle of Wight in honour of Mary Ellis this afternoon (Monday).

Hundreds of people gathered at Northwood House to watch the aerial display.

Mary Ellis died in July, aged 101.

Mary was no stranger to a Spitfire herself, having delivered more than 1,000 aircraft to squadrons during the Second World War.

She also played a key role in the development of Sandown Airport.
