Emergency services have descended on Ventnor this evening (Tuesday) after reports a car has left the road.

Police, ambulance, fire service and coastguard teams have all been called to Esplanade Road to the incident which was reported just before 9pm.

It’s understood a car has come to rest after leaving another road.

Fire crews from Ventnor, Shanklin and Newport – and a support vehicle from Newport – are all on scene.

The fire service said one female occupant of the vehicle has been released. Her condition is unknown.

*It’s understood a female has been taken to hospital, after the car crashed through railings and landed on trees and bushes.

** One casualty has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital after a car ‘crashed through the railings and went over a cliff edge’, according to and MCA Coastguard spokesperson.

They also confirmed that the car has been secured by firefighters.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor and Bembridge assisted Hampshire Constabulary, Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this evening.
