Just weeks before the event is due to take place five more acts have pulled out of this year’s Island Con.

Promises made in writing have not been met and flights have not been booked, according to Ming Chen who has announced he will no longer be appearing at Cowes Enterprise College later this month.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back actor Jason Mewes, Mike Zapic, Brian O’Halloran and Bryan Johnson have also cancelled their apperances.

In a statement Ming said:

“From my own personal experience this points to financial instability/mismanagement on the part of the con.

“If I had permission to speak freely I would theorize that the convention over extended itself by inviting far more guests than they could handle financially. That was probably combined with poor ticket sales which put them further in a financial hole. In some cases this causes a snowball effect – sponsors drop out because they were not promised the calibre of show they were told they would get. Investors follow suit.

“I should have been wary when a number of guests dropped out 3 weeks ago but I was hoping it was an isolated incident. Apparently it was not and they had dropped out for the same reasons we did. In the end we had no choice but to pull out as well.”

The Goonies and Stranger Things star Sean Astin, and the American Pie cast cancelled appearances last month.

To anyone who had planned on coming to Island Con UK to see me, Bry, Mike Z, Brian O'Halloran or Jason Mewes, I am truly…

* Island Con organisers say refunds have been made, or are in the process of being refunded.

They took to Facebook to issue a statement saying:

“It is unfortunate that we have not been able to meet the criteria in order to ensure that the guests would be able to attend Island Con, and the only thing we can do is say how deeply sorry we are in regards to these circumstances. There have been complications along the way and these are understandably not a concern for the general public, however we have tried to do everything we can in order to ensure that we are able to send these guests to Island Con but sadly we have not been able to do so.

On occasions things are beyond our control, however in this occasion, there were requirements we could not fulfill.”
