Kind-hearted Islanders who go the extra mile have been recognised at the Isle of Wight Radio Local Heroes Awards, sponsored by WightFibre, in a ceremony at Cowes Yacht Haven.

Our Overall Local Hero Award went to Barbara Creed, who’s dedicated to changing the lives of young Islanders.


 

The Customer Service Award, sponsored by WRS Systems, went to The Freshwater Coffee House.

The Best Carer Award, sponsored by Charmes Care, was won by Sarah Lacey.

Jan Cave won the Best Neighbour Award, sponsored by Hose Rhodes Dickson.

The Fundraiser Award, sponsored by PC Consultants, went to the Stormtrooper who walked to Paris, Ben Allen and his team.

The Inspirational Leader Award, sponsored by Inflight Peripherals, went to Sandi Gibbs.

The Best Volunteer Award, sponsored by Central Garage, was handed to Sue Clerkin.

The Emergency Service Award, sponsored by Medina Food Service, was lifted by the team from Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.

The Make A Difference In the Community Award, sponsored by Island Roads, was won by the team at Seaview Community Shop.

Island Speedway’s Barry Bishop and Martin Widman were crowned Sporting Achievers, sponsored by The Island Riding Centre.

The Tourism Ambassador Award, sponsored by Wightlink went to “Go Live Granny” – Lyn Blackledge.

The Young Achiever Award, sponsored by The Needles Landmark Attraction, went to Emma Simpson.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by The Beacon Magazine, was won by Ron Bowler.
