Here are some of the stories that were making the headlines on the Isle of Wight in January 2018.

 

An Isle of Wight woman started the New Year in style – by winning a brand new Range Rover Sport – and £20,000 cash.

Louise Jones, from Shanklin, decided to buy a ticket from BOTB – which has top of the range cars as top prizes – at Gatwick Airport before a winter holiday to Majorca.

There’s was major flooding incident in Newport following a burst water main behind the Dulux Centre on Manners View.

Several buildings had to be evacuated, including JR Zone, while fire crews pumped thousands of gallons of water away.

New footage emerged from inside the derelict Wight City, Jolly Sailor and Colonel Bogey’s buildings in Sandown.

The video, captured by Abandoned Isle of Wight, shows the current state of the buildings which have been closed since 2013.

A video was taken in 2016, but the new video shows the arcade – with abandoned fruit machines and games – cafe area and the bar area of the Jolly Sailor.
