Isle of Wight residents were urged to look out for the symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease.

Public Health is warning that the Island has seen a ‘fair few’ cases recently.

Islanders are being advised to look out for symptoms including a sore throat, high temperature, mouth ulcers and a rash.


A brand-new ferry, built by Isle of Wight firm Wight Shipyard, was launched in East Cowes.

The 39m Passenger Catamaran is designed to carry 249 passengers and four crew members.

It will run on the River Danube between Vienna and Bratislava – joining the two European capital cities.

Controversial plans to build another supermarket in Newport have resurfaced, along with proposals to build a drive-thru restaurant and 24-hour gym.

South Coast Leisure, which owns the land on St George’s Way, said if given the green light the development would create 200 jobs and a new sporting facility.

The new application is outlined as a mixed development made up a five linked units with occupants including a discount food retailer, 24-hour gym, DIY/garden centre outlet, drive-thru restaurant and two other retail units as well as parking for nearly 300 cars.
