Newport FC claimed a historic victory against local rivals East Cowes Vics on Saturday (29) in the two sides’ first meeting at Beatrice Avenue for almost 30 years.

A 38th-minute strike from Liam Triggs set the Port on their way to victory with the score 1-0 at halftime.

As the Vics pushed for an equaliser in the second-half it left them exposed at the back.

And, Mark Taylor took full advantage to slot home from the edge of the area to make the score 2-nil to Port in the 73rd minute.

Despite their best efforts, Vics could not draw level and the game finished that way.

The win puts Newport in 9th in Division One whereas East Cowes Vics fall to 13th.

Elsewhere, Cowes Sports lost 3-1 to Baffins Milton Rovers.

The Yachtsman sit in 18th in the Premier Division.
