The Island’s sides were caught up in something of a goal fest over the weekend with Newport coming away as the big winners.

On Saturday (5), Port welcomed Whitchurch United to St George’s Park for their clash in the Sydenhams Wessex Division One.

Fans were certainly not left disappointed either as the home side ran away 8-2 winners.

Elsewhere in the division, East Cowes Vics claimed an impressive point against high-flying Hythe and Dibden.

However, the result was somewhat overshadowed by an injury to Charlie Urry.

He suffered a broken collarbone in only the sixth minute after he was clattered by the onrushing Hythe keeper.

Meanwhile, Cowes Sports lost 3-1 to Portland in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division.

Yesterday (Sunday), Shanklin Ladies lost 8-0 to top of the table Moneyfields FC in the Southern Region Women’s Football League.

And East Cowes Vics Ladies’ game against rivals Cowes Ladies was postponed.
