Do not give your details away on the doorstep, warns the Isle of Wight Council’s Trading Standards department, amid warnings about an energy company representative without ID who is cold calling at properties.
The Isle of Wight Council says there may be a cash incentive to move supplier. It advises that if you do give details out, contact your bank straight away for help.
The company may be genuine, says Trading Standards, but the department says we should still not give away any personal details on the doorstep, or engage with strangers at the door.
It advises that we:
- use a door chain;
- never give personal/financial details to anyone at your doorstep
The department says suppliers should allow customers up to 49 days ahead of your tariff’s end date without incurring a penalty.
