Roads are flooded and there are cancellations on the Island’s cross-Solent operators this afternoon (Friday) as Storm Erik wreaks havoc.

Middle Road in Calbourne: Closed for safety reasons. A manhole cover has opened up, drivers are abandoning cars

In Newport, manhole covers are lifting on Hunnyhill and the Dairy Road at Sainsbury’s.

Forest Road, Newport has water 3ft deep. We have been told a river has burst its banks and it is flooding from a field near Trumor Foods.

Serious flooding at Whippingham, where the main road meets Alverstone Road and East Cowes Road.

As reported earlier, gusts of up to 77mph have hit the Island today. Sandown High Street was closed earlier due to slate falling off a property.

Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions have led to a number of cancellations by cross-Solent operators this afternoon (Friday).

Red Funnel’s Red Jet service is currently suspended, with an update expected at 4pm.

Hovertravel is off.

Wightlink has told customers to check before they travel between Yarmouth and Lymington route.


The High Street is partially closed due to tiles falling from a roof above Serenity restaurant, between Victoria and Albert Roads. Diversions are affecting Newport-bound buses.
