An Isle of Wight man has been arrested on suspicion of blackmail and preventing access to a computer.

Officers attended an address in Godric Road in Newport last night (Wednesday).

A Hampshire Constabulary police spokesperson said:

“As part of an ongoing investigation into a report of harassment we attended an address on Godric Road in Newport at 9:10pm on Wednesday (19).

“A 43 year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of blackmail and an unauthorised act with intent to impair operation of or prevent/hinder access to a computer and remains in police custody at this time.”

Police have told Isle of Wight Radio that the man has been released without charge but remains under investigation.
