A road currently being used as a cut through due to ongoing works by Southern Water on Staplers Road is to be closed for a number of weeks.

As reported by Isle of Wight Radio, a one way system will be in place on the busy Staplers Road until mid-April. While that continues to be the case motorists are using both Furrlongs and Mayfield Drive as alternative routes into Newport.

Despite some reports on the Isle of Wight, Island Roads has today (Thursday) confirmed that Mayfield Drive will be closed for up to two weeks.

The date of the closure is yet to be confirmed but will be in place some time between 8 March and 12 April, according to a spokesperson.

Island Roads added:

“The scheme notification signs were put out by Southern Water and they were displayed before the road closure had been agreed and advertised.

“We have been speaking to Southern Water about this important work and how it can be done with least impact on residents and road users…

“We continue to liaise with Southern Water with a view to keeping disruption to a minimum and as soon as we have more specific dates we will publicise these.”
